Laurel J. Pracht, President


Laurel J Pracht, founder of the West Valley Ovarian Cancer Alliance, is an 18 year ovarian cancer survivor. When diagnosed in 1999, there were limited patient decision aids in reliable lay-language.  As a result, she was determined to make a difference for others by advocating for women with ovarian cancer.  She serves as a member of the National Cancer Institute Symptom Management and Quality of Life Steering Committee, representing the patient perspective when reviewing research proposals.

A graduate of the University of Nebraska, she currently serves as a Patient Advocate with NRG Oncology, formerly the Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG).  She is a past member of the Patient Advocate Advisory Board, Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, where she helped create a patient friendly nuclear medicine website, She has successfully advocated to secure Medicare coverage of PET scans.  She is a member of the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance’s Science and Policy Advisory Committee, the Arizona coordinator for the Survivors Teaching Students - Saving Women’s Lives® program.  She was appointed to the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) Patient Engagement Advisory Panel and now a PCORI Ambassador.  She is affiliated with the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance's Science and Policy Committee representing the patient perspective.  Laurel is a past Board member of the Ovarian Cancer Alliance of Arizona.  She is a Consumer Reviewer and mentor for the Department of Defense Ovarian Cancer Research Program, serves on a Medicare Beneficiary and Family Advisory Committee (BFAC) and is a faculty member of an educational workshop, "Methods in Clinical Cancer Research" conducted in Vail, CO.   She lives in Sun City, AZ with her husband Bob.
